On January 14, 2011, Green Dot announced its role as the provider of reloadable prepaid Visa debit cards for IRS income tax refunds. On a limited scale, the company is testing the direct deposit of 2010 federal income tax refunds onto prepaid debit cards.

If the pilot testing goes well, presumably millions of Americans will receive their federal income tax refunds this way next year.
